Accidental Techie / Áksi dént'l  Téki

 Noun [C] INFORMAL

"A person who starts off in a post unrelated to ICT, then by evolution, choice, or necessity ends up with the role of looking after an organisation's technology needs." ictknowledgebase

Are you an Accidental Techie? If you can answer ‘yes' to this question, then help is at hand...

A group of Accidental Techies (like yourself) exist in other charity and community organisations in the local area, and meet regularly to discuss a range of practical and prevalent computer topics.

Workshops are put together, specifically for people with no ICT background and our aim is for people to go back to their organisations having learnt something practical and beneficial about ICT

There's no selling involved; we aim to speak like ‘real' people do, and the focus of workshops are dictated by the attendees.

The next workshop is scheduled for:

Wednesday 10th February 2010, 09:30 - 13:00

We shall be meeting at:

Great Malvern Railway Station, Station Approach, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 3AU

At the workshop we'll be demonstrating how small voluntary and community organisations (VCO’s) can make use of Microsoft's free Office Live Small Business suite of tools to create a professional on-line image to the outside world, and make use of the free on-line storage and document sharing facilities of the toolset.

The workshop will demonstrate the features of the Microsoft Office Live environment, and provide a hands-on participative environment for attendees to familiarise themselves with the suite.

The workshop will cover aspects of the suite, including:

  • Choosing and registering a domain
  • Setting up and managing multiple e-mail addresses on the domain
  • Storing and sharing documents on-line
  • Sharing a desktop with someone else (both viewing the same screen)
  • Creating and maintaining a website

The workshops are aimed at individuals, small groups or organisations who are either in a position of IT responsibility (such as an Accidental Techie) or aimed at people who use computers for their work, but often work out of the office and would benefit from knowing how to share files more easily.

For all enquiries, or if you would like to attend this workshop, please contact Phyllis Lewis on 01432 267820 or e-mail: phyllisl@comfirst.org.uk
